Ecology for tomorrow's cities

We are an ecology lab in the Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.

We are interested in a wide range of topics at the intersections of botanical, entomological, functional, and urban ecology. Our current projects revolve around themes of nutrient cycling, decomposition, functional traits, and biodiversity in cities.

PIE lab just started in 2024. We are actively looking to enrol/hire students (both undergraduate and PhD) and staff who share our interests in studying plants, invertebrates, and urban ecology.

About us

We are located in equatorial Singapore, a modern city state situated in a region of immense biodiversity. Despite being a highly developed country, Singapore contains significant amounts of biodiverse primary and secondary tropical rainforests. Additionally, Singapore invests heavily in urban greening and sustainability initiatives, and boasts an extensive park network planted with large numbers of native tree species. Singapore thus provides an ideal test bed for tropical urban ecological research.
